Pikachu Sweets’s menu changes pretty often depending on whatever mainline Pokémon games are currently featured, but for the most part, you’ll see some combination of a themed waffle, frappe drink, and graphic latte, alongside permanent items like their Polteageist Milk Tea, Alcremie Soft Serve, and Pikachu Baumkuchen Tree Cake.

In addition to the food/drinks menu, you can find all sorts of café-themed souvenirs here: from add-ons to your drinks like their plushie drink coasters and straw charms, to standalone merch like Pokémon Café Pikachu plushies, keychains, Eco-Bags, and a Sinistea and Polteageist-inspired teacups and teapots.

🏠 Interior 🏠

As a takeout-only shop, the interior of the café essentially serves as a waiting area while you wait for your order.

But as with any Pokémon store in Japan it’s also a perfect opportunity for some photos!

🥤 Today’s Order 🥤

This is one of the few times I ordered more than I wanted specifically for the review. The drinks were my priority today, but as the review wouldn’t feel complete without a food-item, I also got their Poké-ffle to try out as well.

🔴 “I choose you!! Orange Frappe -Scarlet- (¥864) 🔴
🟣 “I choose you!! Grape Frappe -Violet- (¥864) 🟣

For drinks, I went for the Scarlet & Violet themed Orange/Grape Frappe.

In addition to the slushie and whipped cream, the drink features a fondant emblem (Naranja Academy for the Orange Frappe, and Uva Academy for the Grape Frappe) and a monaka wafer of your chosen Paldean Starter Pokémon – Sprigatito, Fuecoco, or Quaxly.

Flavor-wise? The slushie is just an iced grape/orange drink, so while nothing special, it was  definitely refreshing.

The whipped cream was noticeably thick, and you can either scoop it up with the straw, or mix it with the drink to create a Slushie Float-like drink.

🟡 Poké-ffle with a Pikachu Sweets Logo -Pikachu- (¥756) 🟡

Pikachu Sweets’s signature item – the Pikachu-inspired Poké-ffle. Shaped like Pikachu’s ears- complete with yellow and black honey chocolate topping, and served in a cute Pikachu holder – this is an easy choice for anyone looking to grab something that perfectly complements the store’s aesthetics.

With that out of the way, taste-wise? It’s…aggressively middling. The waffle is a waffle, so standard flavors there. But the waffle was kinda stale, and much denser than what you’d typically expect… though maybe my batch was kinda old.

The honey chocolate topping was genuinely nice though, and is really the only thing saving the waffle from being bad…

Great for photos? Absolutely! But if you’re not here for that (or the add-on goodies,) skip this one.

💬 Where to Eat? 💬

Since Pikachu Sweets is takeout-only, your best bet on where to eat would be one of the many benches around Sunshine City.

I found an empty one a couple floors directly above – but you can also find outdoor benches at Sunshine Garden on the 4th floor.

In any case, do come back to the store after you’re done to dispose of your trash at the Garbodor trash can!

🟡 Pokémon Center Mega Tokyo 🟡

Full Review: Anime & Figure Stores at Ikebukuro & Sunshine City

Pikachu Sweets isn’t the only Pokémon-themed store at Sunshine City, with Pokémon Center Mega Tokyo (Largest Pokémon Center in Japan), Pokémon GO Lab, Pokémon Card Station, and the various Pokémon displays located around the 2nd floor.

If you’re planning to stop by Pikachu Sweets, I highly recommend you check out the other stores first, buy some stuff, then take some photos of it alongside your order.

⭐VERDICT⭐

So how good is Pikachu Sweets by Pokémon Café actually? See… As with other themed cafés, you’re pretty much here for the experience. Pokémon has always done a fantastic job at themed stores/cafés/etc., and if that’s what you’re after, this place is very good! The themed food & drinks combined with the décor make for some very memorable photos. Get some of their merch with your order, and you’ve got several Instagram-worthy shots ready to go!

Objectively? It was just fine. The drinks were quite good: not too pricey, but nothing you can’t find in some other café or store. The waffles – at least on my go – were… not good, so maybe grab some other items on your visit.

But if it’s your first time here, do give it a shot. I certainly enjoyed my visit, though I’ll probably only come back again to try out their new drinks every once in a while.

So if you’re around Ikebukuro or Pokémon Center Mega Tokyo, and need a quick stop at a café with some great photo opportunities, head on over to Pikachu Sweets by Pokémon Café!
