I’m at Kyoto once again, and I’ll be staying at Travelodge Kyoto Shijo Kawaramachi for this part of the trip.

Located right around Kyoto’s downtown Kawaramachi district, and at a pretty nice price point – this hotel seems like a pretty good choice for me. But what was the room like? The overall experience? And is it worth the visit? Let’s get to it. How Good is Travelodge Kyoto Shijo Kawaramachi Actually?

🏠 Hotel Lobby 🏠

The lobby here is quite spacious, and very cleanly designed – might I add. Check-In went by smoothly, so not much to add here.

Once you’re done with Check-In, don’t forget to grab some amenities (if you need them) before heading up to your room.

And right next to the elevator, you’ll find an ice machine, microwave, and a drinks vending machine.

For reference: Check-In time is at 3 P.M. and Check-Out is at 10 A.M.

🏠 Room Overview 🏠

I’m staying with my brother this trip, so we decided to go for the Superior Queen room. At 15m2, it’s a decent bit more spacious than the typical budget Japanese hotels out there.

Side Note: For two guests, there’s also the slightly smaller Standard Queen/Twin Room (13m2) and the larger Deluxe Twin Room (17m2).

🛏 Bed Area 🛏

Being the Superior Queen Room, this room features a… Queen Bed.

The bed itself is quite nice – the standard for any Japanese hotel. Slightly soft mattress, fluffy and cool blankets, and two pillows each to choose from.

And by the bed area, you’ll find a table lamp, a power outlet & usb port, light switches, and an area to keep your phone (or other small item.)

And a Travelodge room wouldn’t be complete without its signature mural/artwork.

The Superior Queen Room features a simple dark blue wall with a stylized “Konnichiwa” inscription, and a more detailed canvas photo of a woman in a kimono walking through the Torii gates of Fushimi Inari Taisha, holding a vibrant red and white Wagasa umbrella.

Technically not that important, but the decorations do add a memorable touch to the hotel experience.

__________

🏠 Table Area 🏠

The table area features a work station, chair, and mirror on one end, and a table lamp, mini fridge, safe, and other amenities on the other.

The work station also features two wall outlets and a lan port, while the amenities include a hot water kettle, mugs, tea & coffee, and two pairs of slippers.

As for the window view – for my room at least – you get a pretty nice glimpse of Kyoto’s busy streets.

🏠 Room Hallway & Other Areas 🏠

On the other side of the room leading up to the door, you can find a small TV, wall hooks & clothes hangers, a mirror, and a cleaning spray for your clothes.

The floor area is also quite wide, so you’ll have no trouble opening your luggage here.

__________

🛁 Bathroom Area 🛁

Size-wise, it’s around the same size as a typical Japanese hotel bathroom – compact, but gets the job done.

The bathroom features a shower area with a small bathtub, showerhead and bathtub spout, a toilet with an electronic bidet, and a sink area.

Plus some other essentials like body soap/ shampoo/ conditioners, hair & body towels, toothbrush, cups, and a hair dryer. (For shower caps, body scrub, hair brush, razor, etc., you can find them at the lobby.)

🍱 Hotel Breakfast 🍱

So here’s the thing, I don’t typically eat at hotel breakfasts when I’m in Japan. But since I’m travelling with my family, we decided to add-on the breakfast option. And believe me when I say… the breakfast was just amazing!

While their buffet-style breakfast doesn’t feature the largest selection, the items that’s there were certainly impressive.

There’s freshly-baked breads, a salad bar with all sorts of Japanese-style salads, miso soup, tea/coffee & lots of soft drinks, and the main star of the show – their hot station – featuring Japanese rice, and a selection of three toppings: Arabiki sausage, bacon, and Tamagoyaki (with Nori seaweed & Shio Konbu as extras)

Visually, it doesn’t seem to be too special… Maybe it’s just me, but the flavor combination of the rice and the three toppings just work so well together – to my entire family’s surprise.

The salty smokiness of the Japanese-style bacon and sausage just works wonders with the rice, and dare I say this breakfast (of all places…) ended up being the most satisfying meal of the trip.

Side Note: Breakfast is available from 7 A.M. to 10 P.M. And outside of breakfast hours, they serve some pretty interesting Japanese-Italian Fusion cuisine

⭐VERDICT⭐

So how good is Travelodge Kyoto Shijo Kawaramachi actually? Quite good! The room and overall experience was very enjoyable, so there really isn’t much to complain about.

The location is fantastic as well, giving you easy access to many of Kyoto’s main areas either via walk or the nearby subway lines.

The highlight for me (and I can’t believe I’m saying this) is definitely their breakfast selection. It’s simple, but the available options just work together so well! Definitely recommend you try out their breakfast at least once during your stay.

So if you’re around Kyoto and want a pretty solid hotel located at one of Kyoto’s main shopping districts, then Travelodge Kyoto Shijo Kawaramachi is the place to head to!
