I’m back in Osaka once again, and I’ll be staying at Travelodge Honmachi Osaka for this part of the trip. Located not too far off from Dotonbori, and featuring a pretty nice price point, this hotel strikes a pretty nice sweetspot for me.
So, what was the experience like? How was the room? And is it worth the visit? Let’s get to it. How Good is Travelodge Honmachi Osaka Actually?

🏠 Hotel Lobby & Check-In 🏠

Travelodge Honmachi Osaka’s lobby is located on the 2nd floor – accessible via the elevators. The lobby itself is pretty spacious, and the check-in process went by quite smoothly – nothing much to talk about.

The lobby features several services/facilities as well, from complimentary drinks, a luggage scale & luggage storage, and all sorts of amenities (combs, razor, shower cap, etc.) There’s also a facilities room on the 3rd floor, which we’ll cover later.

And for reference, Check-In is at 3PM, while Check-Out is at 10 A.M.
__________
🏠 Elevator 🏠

To head up to your room, Travelodge Honmachi Osaka features a singular elevator for the different floors. A little wait time is expected, but do expect long waiting times during peak hours (read: check-out.)
There’s a reason why the elevator has its own section in my review. The wait time during check-out hours can be pretty significant with just one elevator. I highly recommend you consider checking out early to beat the crowd, or at least take the stairs to check-out, before going back up to get your bags.

🛌 Deluxe Queen Room 🛌

I’m travelling with my brother this trip, so we went for the Deluxe Queen Room. Compared to a couple of hotels I’ve visited in Japan, the first thing I noticed here was just how spacious the place was. (19m2) Might not be as big as hotels outside of Japan, but it’s impressively comfy – even for two people.
I’ll go over each individual area of the room below, but here’s some additional thoughts.
The lights are decently bright. Could be a bit brighter for my liking, but it’s good enough.
The floors are made of wood, with no carpet floor in any section.
Side Note: For 2 guests, there’s also a Superior Double Room(17m2) for a slightly cheaper price or the Deluxe Twin Room(19m2) for a 2 single-bed version of the Deluxe Queen Room.
__________
🛌 Bed Area 🛌

With my room being the “Deluxe Queen,” the room comes equipped with – you guessed it – a Queen Bed.

The bed is pretty much what you’d expect in a good Japanese hotel, a soft mattress, comfy blankets that are cool to the touch, and two types of pillows per person. Again, not much to add other than it’s very good.

Let’s not forget about the main visual highlight of the room – Travelodge’s signature mural. Being at Osaka – the mural here features a black-and-white print of Osaka Castle Park, with Sakura trees in the foreground and Osaka Castle at the back. Does it serve a functional purpose? Not really. But as a decorative piece, it leaves a memorable impression that elevates the room experience.
__________
🏠 Desk Area 🏠

At the desk area, everything you’d expect to be here – you can find it here. A work station, chair, mini fridge, safe, luggage stand, slippers, power outlets, tea/coffee equipment, remotes, and a clothes-hanging rack – complete with a bottle of cleaning spray. The usual assortment of items.

One minor nitpick I have is the position of the work station in relation to the window. With the window being slightly off to the left, and the chair to the right – the positioning gets a little awkward when you want to admire the view.
Granted, this might just be the layout of my particular room – but it was something I noticed pretty quickly. You could center the chair a bit (and move the trashbin,) but the fridge does get in the way of your left leg somewhat. Again, a trivial matter – the room was very nice!
__________
🏠 Room Hallway 🏠

The room is quite long, so the hallway space in the room is also quite big by default.
__________
__________
🛁 Bathroom Area 🛁

For Japanese hotel standards, the bathroom area is massive!

There’s the bath area with a showerhead and a full-on bathtub, a toilet with an electronic bidet, and a sink area with all the towels, cups, and amenities you need (minus the ones you need to get at the lobby.)

As someone who often stays at hotels in Japan with very small bathrooms, the bathroom here is definitely a welcome addition.
__________
🏠Facilities Room 🏠

You’ll be finding Travelodge’s facilities room on the 3rd floor. It’s a pretty compact room with coin-operated washing and drying machines, clothes iron and board, a wash basin (should you need it), and an ice machine (always a plus in my book.)

Elevator chokepoint applies if you’re staying at a different floor, so do keep that in mind.

⭐VERDICT⭐

So how good is Travelodge Honmachi Osaka actually? Yeah, it’s quite good! Hotel chains like Travelodge can be pretty simple, but as long as it’s clean, convenient, and features all the essentials – that’s more or less all you need! The rooms were great, the space mighty plentiful, and the mural really brings it together for quite the pleasant stay.
Sure, I have some minor nitpicks here and there, but they’re mostly ignorable and don’t make a big difference in my overall impression. The elevator congestion can be a real pain, but if you play around it, that too shouldn’t be much of a problem.
But in all, the experience was very positive, and I’d consider booking another stay here the next time I’m around! So if you’re heading to Osaka and want a solid hotel at a pretty nice price point, then book your nights at Travelodge Honmachi Osaka.

🚗 GETTING THERE 🚗
Via subway, you want to head to Hommachi Station (Midosuji, Chuo, and Yotsubashi Lines.) Head up to Exit 1, and the hotel should be about a quick 5 minute walk in a straight line.
If you’re taking the Sakaisuji or Chuo Line, head towards Sakaisuji Hommachi Station and exit via Exit 17, where the hotel will be a 7 minute walk away.
Alternatively, you could just walk here from Dotonbori. It’s a pretty long 2km (30 minute) journey if you’re starting from the Glico Sign, but if you want to walk through Osaka’s main district before heading back to the hotel, I recommend you give this route a shot – it’s also pretty much a straight line!
